The City of Nampa is excited to announce anticipated improvements to a portion of the Wall Street alley in Downtown Nampa. The entire long-range connectivity project for the Wall Street alley runs from 3rd Street South to the Longbranch building in the alleyway located north of 1st Street South between 12th Avenue South and 13th Avenue South.
The section of Wall Street currently being discussed for improvement starts at 1st Street South and extends southward approximately 110 feet to the back of the buildings facing 1st Street South. The improvements would transform the area into a more desirable, active and walkable access way, creating a pedestrian-only area and compliment the private improvements previously made on 1st Street South, as well as planned improvements. The proposed improvements were presented and approved at Nampa City Council December 7, 2020. Traffic realignments are anticipated to be implemented as soon as the spring of 2021.
The remaining alley way would be accessible to vehicle traffic. In order to facilitate larger delivery vehicles, the revised traffic pattern would include a “U-shaped” turn area in the Stampede Parking Lot off of 2nd Street South. The project involves upgrading the utilities located under Wall Street from 1st Street South to 2nd Street South, installing hardscape design of colored brick pavers and concrete ribbons (designed as an homage to our history as a railroad town), decorative streetlights, and removable bollards. Trees, shrubs, art, street furniture and façade improvements. It is anticipated that full funding of the project would come from a variety of partnerships including private, city funding or grant monies.
The purpose of the project, which has been in conceptual planning since in 2017, is to address blighted conditions by providing a safe, walkable connection on the Wall Street pedestrian path. Current conditions include lack of lighting, inadequate drainage/flooding issues and cracked asphalt, resulting in an uninviting, un-walkable pedestrian corridor surrounded by restaurants.
