City of Nampa approves minor utility rate increases

City of Nampa Press Release graphic

The Nampa City Council discussed proposed increases to various utility related fees at the August 3, 2020 council meeting. The Nampa City Council was mindful of the current economic climate of many residents and businesses who have been impacted by the coronavirus.

In light of this sensitivity, the Council voted to keep current domestic water rates the same for residential customers at this time. Previously planned capital improvement projects for water infrastructure will most likely be postponed.

In May of 2018, Nampa residents voted to approve a sewer revenue bond to pay for mandatory improvements to the wastewater treatment plant. The investment estimated a gradual increase in sewer rates by approximately 16.75% each year through 2026. At the August 3 meeting, Council limited the increase to 8% for residential sewer rates due to economic concerns related to COVID-19. The increase will begin October 1, 2020. The reduced increase may impact future sewer rate increases.  Construction on the sewer plant has begun and is planned to be completed in 2025.

The Nampa City Council will re-evaluate domestic water and sewer rates in February 2021.

In response to Nampa residents encouraging “growth pay for growth,” Council approved increases to hookup fees for domestic water and wastewater beginning October 1, 2020.
