Seven local students earn $2,000 scholarships from annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament

The Nampa Golf Commission awarded $14,000 in scholarships to seven college-bound students thanks to several local sponsors, 32 hole sponsors and 32 teams participating in the annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament. The event raises money for Summer Youth Golf programs in Nampa, Mayor’s Teen Council and provides scholarships to high school senior golf students. 

The following high school seniors received $2,000 scholarships:

  • Claire Garner, Nampa High School, plans to pursue a cosmetology degree.
  • Courtney Kearsley, Ridgevue High School, plans to attend Brigham Young University – Idaho and pursue a degree in nursing.
  • Emily Elliott, Ridgevue High School, plans on studying business at North Idaho College and playing on their golf team.
  • Maya Elliott, Ridgevue High School, plans to attend Idaho State University to study biology and apply for medical school after receiving a bachelor’s degree.
  • Micah Becker, Columbia High School, plans to attend Northwest Nazarene University and obtain a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Michael Corkish, Liberty Charter High School, plans on attending Northwest Nazarene University to study civil engineering.
  • Sadie Miller, Skyview High School, plans to attend Brigham Young University – Idaho to pursue a degree in elementary education after a deferment in order to attend a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Major tournament sponsors were CapEd Credit Union, ­­­­­Texas Roadhouse and Republic Services.

The Nampa Mayor’s Golf Tournament has raised over $159,250 for scholarships and youth golf programs during the 17 years it has been held.
