During the investigation into the threats of violence at Nampa’s Skyview High School, Nampa Police officers made two arrests. These arrests are related to the threats investigation, but the original threat is still under investigation.

Nampa Police officers have actively been investigating the original threat and following all available leads in that case. Officers have also been working closely with the Nampa School District to make students and faculty feel safe while attending school. There were several police officers at Skyview High School today during school hours and patrol officers spent extra time in the areas around the school.

On April 18, 2017, as a result of the ongoing investigation, Nampa Police School Resource officers charged a 16-year-old male and 18-year-old male with crimes related to this case. The 16-year-old male was charged with disturbing the peace and for making threats of violence on school grounds. He was taken to the Southwest Idaho Juvenile Detention Center in Caldwell where he will be held on those charges. The 18-year-old male was identified as Martin P. Soto, a Nampa resident. Soto was charged with possession of lost or stolen property, a firearm and disorderly conduct. Soto was transported to the Canyon County Jail where he was booked in on those charges. The involved firearm was located at a residence and was not at the school or on any Nampa School District property.

Officers will continue to investigate this case and provide support to the Nampa School District with continued safety and security for students and employees. “The safety of students and staff is our number one priority. We will not tolerate threats, whether made directly, through social media, anonymously or threats made as a hoax,” said SRO Sgt. Jason Cantrell. “Threatening violence against schools is a violation of the law and persons found responsible will be charged and prosecuted,” Cantrell said.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Nampa Police Department at 465-2257. You can give anonymous tips by contacting Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS or on the web at 343cops.com.
